Community Service

The Barrows Firm strives to be enthusiastically involved in our community. Giving back to the community is one of the most important ways we can serve our neighbors. We are committed to a number of community service causes and are especially passionate about programs that help foster children, troubled youth, the elderly, and veterans.

National Adoption Day

National Adoption Day is a collective community service effort to raise awareness about the more than 100,000 foster children who are waiting to find permanent, loving families. A coalition of national partners sponsors National Adoption day, which occurs the Saturday before Thanksgiving day. These sponsors include:

Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption
Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute
Alliance for Children’s Rights
Children’s Action Network

The Barrows Firm has been involved in this special community service event from the firm’s inception. Our founder and lead attorney, Leslie Barrows, has served as chair and co-chair of the Tarrant County committee for National Adoption Day.

Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County

Meals On Wheels of Tarrant County is a nonprofit charitable organization that started in 1973 as a collaboration between eleven faith-based organizations in downtown Fort Worth to bring food to the elderly in the central city area. Today, the organization serves all of Tarrant County.

The Meals On Wheels community service program provides home-delivered meals, professional case management, and other needed items or services to elderly or disabled home-bound residents. They respond to numerous community needs, including malnutrition, food insecurity, social isolation, poor mental or physical health. For many of the recipients, the daily meal may represent the only human contact they have on a given day. Most clients have aged in place, living in the same home for many years.  Their home is where they feel safe and comfortable.  Many were self-sufficient and productive their entire lives, and now they can no longer remain at home without some assistance.

The Barrows Firm has been involved with Meals On Wheels since 2007 through Leslie’s active volunteerism. She participates in the Tarrant County and Northeast Tarrant County community service programs.

Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans

Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans (TLTV) is a community service program initiated by the State Bar of Texas and currently runs under the direction of the Tarrant County Bar Foundation, a nonprofit organization.  TLTV encourages and recruits Tarrant County attorneys to provide free legal services for veterans and spouses of deceased veterans with legal issues in Tarrant County.

The Tarrant County chapter of TLTV organizes legal clinics to coordinate with volunteer attorneys who provide consultation and legal counseling in family, consumer/finance, probate, estate planning, bankruptcy, landlord/tenant, criminal and other legal matters. TLTV has served over 1,500 Tarrant County veterans since its inception in the fall of 2010, and more than 400 attorneys have donated over 10,000 hours of pro bono work. Non-attorney volunteers, paralegals, and law student volunteers also participate in the process.

Our legal team actively participates in TLTV, and we are proud to volunteer our time, effort and energy to provide legal assistance to veterans of Tarrant County.

Metroport Teen Court

The Metroport Teen Court program is a voluntary service funded by the cities of Colleyville, Grapevine, Keller, and Southlake that gives teens in middle school or high school the opportunity to keep Class C Misdemeanors off of their permanent record. Teens go through a trial before a jury of their peers and will be sentenced to community service. Teen Court sessions are held on Tuesday evenings at Southlake police headquarters.

Barrows Firm attorney Leslie Barrows has been a Metroport Teen Court Judge since 2009 and received the Metroport Teen Court Judge of the Year Award in 2013.
